So my 2 year service contract has expired now Dish now wants $54 a month more for the same service, 2, 922 receivers and a Wally with 120 channels So far real retention offers for a customer with 17 years of history at this point, they want me to call back next week.

Getting ready to cut the cord with dish and move to YoutubeTV for $82 and more channels. Though I would get some opinions from some of our other members, $140.00 seems a bit overpriced, am I wrong. Yes I know Dish boxes makes things more convenient but then again too I have antique equipment and don't get the advantages of Hoppers and whatnot. So, I payed for one more month (at a higher rate) to made an intelligent choice of ditching them. All comments welcome.

I also didn't know the 922 was still supported, you might have the last 2 still activated!

If you plan to stay with Dish, you might want to swap those 922s out for Wallys, it will cut your fees considerably. Dish has also been good about giving monthly discounts to loyal customers. Between the 2, you might think it's worth keeping the service.

YouTube TV is free for 10 days currently, along with this deal-

$59.99/mo for your first 2 months, $82.99/mo thereafter for YouTube TV Base Plan.

With that, you can watch up to 3 TVs at the same time, along with the unlimited DVR.

Any other questions, ask in the Internet TV section of this site.

I dropped Dish for Cox many years ago after I think close to 20 yrs of Dish service. At the time Cox with my Tivo's and Tivo Minis were much cheaper than Dish. I've now moved on to mainly Philo and OTA with some streaming.

When I called to cancel Dish they offered to upgrade my 722's to Hoppers and more than half off for 2yrs to stay. I think I had the Top 200 package at that time. I already had Cox installed and preferred the Tivo's, so didn't take the Dish offer. You might call to cancel and use an equipment upgrade and price reduction as negotiation to stay if you prefer Dish.

Otherwise, YTTV is great. I had moved my dad to it before he passed and my in-laws and both of my sisters have switched in the last 5-6 years from Dish to YTTV. They all love it and have had no problems with it.

Doesn't sound like you were proactive and called Customer Retention before your deal expired, and waited to get a surprise bill. You probably could have reduced the shock!

Actually I was, I called a number of times and got a bunch of excuses, cant make offers while your in a contract, you need to wait until expiration, then we cant make offers when your in your billing cycle even though your contract has expired, you must have a zero balance on the account before we can make offers. We have to wait for your auto payment to show posted before we can make new offers or contract. It goes on, and so on. Dish customer service is for the most part totally useless, stories, and silly tricks. I have made at least 8 phone calls over the last 30 days. Honestly, they apologize, thank you for being a loyal customer and other total BS but I really think they could care less. There just reading from the game plan book.

I feel sorry for the CSR having to shovel out BS all day and deal with customers that are melting down. Now they want me to call back next week.

Perhaps its time to go I have little patience left.

Customer of about 25 years. AT200, Hopper 3, Joey - $100/month for 2 years. Equivalent to YTTV except for the luxury of having the Hopper. Hardware is much better than streaming IMHO. Got it by calling the retention number.

Thanks for that I will try that one next week when I call again, they gave me 866-974-0781 for loyalty department that would just go to regular customer service.

One additional question, What is the latest Hopper and will it work with 2 Wally's? If I do end up staying with them I think I will force them to replace the 2 922's.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and idea's, its funny I get better results and ideas here then with Dish, lol

I believe that if you update your equipment, it will trigger a commitment , if I am wrong, someone reply with the correct information.

Sigh, just call, ask for loyalty and tell them you aren't paying that much.
Pretty much ALL of us have done that multiple times over the years

Did you actually talk to the loyalty dept., or just the person who answered the phone??

Hopper 3 and no it doesn't work WITH Wallys, that would be Joeys, but you can have purchased Wallys that you can use along with the Hopper on 2 other TV's
