GOES 16 GRB downlink vs GVAR

I asked TBS about the availability of the TBS6903, which is not currently available on the www.tbsdtv.com website. I got the following reply from their sales department:

"Thank you very much for your inquiry , TBS6903 is stopped production for long time, TBS6903X is the successor, it has all the fucntions of TBS6903 , or can you tell me what's your requirement? we can help to check and confirm , thank you ."

So I told them that the TBS6903 worked very well for receiving GOES GRB weather satellite images, but I tried the TBS6903X and the error rate was much higher than the TBS6903. So high that not very many images get through.

We determined that I have the old version of the TBS6903X, and a newer version is now available. They offered to send me a sample of the new version of the card for testing, and I took them up on that offer.

Also I now have a direct email for their support engineer who can assist me if I run into problems. So hopefully the new TBS6903X will work and there will continue to be a relatively low cost option for the reception of GRB.

Sorry to revive an old forum thread but has anyone had luck using sdrs like the hackrf and the software package satdump for receiving goes grb images. I just got a 8ft dish and built up a feed for it (dual monopole cantenna feed with hybrid coupler) but haven't been able to get any useful data via satdump. My snr is around 7 to 8dB which I think is on par for an 8ft dish (maybe even a little low).

Additionally has there been any more development/ testing with the tbs6903x that shows it is usable now for grb reception?
