Hello Gurus,

We live in Santa Clara, CA (Bay Area). My question to you all is I would like to get America's top 100 channels + Zee TV + Sun TV (South Asian International Channel). What dish should I get? Will a Dish 500 would suffice? I am totally new to all this and so any kind of help in making the decision would be great. While talking to the Dish rep they said they would give us Dish 500 and 622 HD receiver. Yes, we would also like to get HD channels.

So please help us out to make the correct selection.

Thank you.

When you place your order, the correct equipment will be delivered to your service address, depending on your location.

I think you'll probably end up getting a 500 PLUS dish, 119/110/118.7 orbitals, with most likely a DP34 switch.

Is that good or not good? Should I ask for something more? I am trying to get 3 TVs hooked up. The house is a 3 storey building and so trying to get for 1 TV on each floor.

Also I saw other posts talking about 129 orbital... what is that for?

Whoops, I didn't see the HD reciever before.

129 is for national HD programming, and local channels depending on what area your in.

As I said, I wouldn't worry about choosing what dish your going to get. Each area calls for different equipment, along with your choice of programming. Just tell them you want a 3 room install, along with HD programming, local channels if you want them.

Dish (or the installer) will decide what dish or dishes to put up. You really don't have to worry about it.

:haha OK, now that I got that out of my system-

You'll need satellites 110 & 119 for the basic package and San Francisco locals.
You'll need 61.5 or 148 for Zee & Sun. In your location, 148 is the better bet.
You'll need 61.5 or 129 for HD. Again, in CA, 129 will be the better bet.

So, they could do this several ways:
1. Dish 500 for 110/119, and another 500 (or Dish 300) for 129, and another for 148.
2. Same as 1, but with a 24" dish for 129.
3. More likely: One of the Dish 1000 dishes for 110/119/129, and a 500 (or 300) for 148.

Is this of any help?

Is this of any help?

Ofcourse it is of great Help. But I am not sure if the rep is giving us 1 Dish or 2 Dish. Looks like I need to find that out.

Claude at Dish Store -- Is he a rep who installs Dish? Do they give a good deal with free HD Receiver upgrade and free DVR and that 200$ off for signing up etc? I am new to this forum as well as to this Dish Installation part and so this help too would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for helping me out.

And if you will need to be able to watch 3 independent shows at once, you'll need a second receiver.

However, if you will never need to see 3 separate shows at once, the ViP622 will work fine. It could be set up so that all the TV's can see TV1 and TV2 Output in SD, and the local TV next to the 622 can see TV1 in HD.

Oh is it... If we want to be able to watch 3 seperate programs in the 3 different TV's then we would need 3 different receiver or 2 would do? Is it that if 2 receiver then the two TVs that share the same Receiver can watch only 1 single program on the two TV's?
Is that how it works? Hmm...

That's a good point to know.

BTW does dish still give Superdish? Does it matter whether we have 1 dish or two dish ? I am still confused as to which to go with. Should we go with 1 single dish? If one dish then which one would be good? Or would you recommend two Dish?

Can somebody let me know the answer for the above query?

I believe you will need two dishes. One for 110/119/129 and one for 148.

You can get by with 2 receivers, if one is the ViP622. The ViP622 acts like two receivers in one box. You can feed two TVs independently from it- each TV watches whatever they want.

Who is this number?
