Hey folks - I have a question and this is probably the best forum for it. I have a Sony STR-DN1080 receiver in my main HT location and as the driver for my outdoor speakers. It's about 7 years old and is only a middle-grade unit, but it serves me well overall. It has a Dish ViP211K receiver and several other HD boxes connected to it. There's a strange series of events going on with this system that I can't figure out, thought I'd tap the brain trust here first. In the early afternoons I often have one of several FM stations playing, originating from this receiver vs. streaming from another source. All other connected "boxes" are on standby. At approximately 1:20 PM almost every day, the receiver switches itself from FM to TV for no apparent reason; sometimes I get to switch it back to FM almost immediately, sometimes not. Then at approximately 1:35 PM the receiver switches itself completely off (standby), regardless of whether or not I had switched it back to FM. There is a "sleep timer" that I have set to Off, but I can't find any other kind of timer function in the receiver that would cause this to happen. I have read through the entire manual and also drilled-down in all the numerous menus looking for something that might be related but so far, no joy. The software is up to date. I don't think this "problem" existed at the beginning (faulty memory) but it has been rather consistent now for several years. Obviously it didn't bug me a lot since I'm only really digging into it now...but I now want to figure out what the issue is and solve it if possible.

Thanks in advance for any ideas...

I would be looking for activity on the various HDMI sources (possibly including the TV itself).

If the ViP211k is set to reboot at 13:20 (give or take some minutes), this may be the issue, but I don't think (and I may be wrong) that it is designed to put the AVR (or TV) into standby. If the reboot timer is set for early afternoon, move it to a time in the early morning when nobody's listening.

Thanks for your reply! The Sony 4K TV would be the primary suspect since the AVR switches to the TV mode first, but all I can find in its substantial menus are separate "On" and "Off" timers, and both are set to "Off". If there's another timer in the TV, I haven't found it yet, but I will dig into its manual as well. I verified the update timer in the 211K is still set at its 3 AM default. The AVR and 211K are connected through the HDMI 3/ARC connection. I guess the next step would be to disconnect the 2 other HDMI sources, a Sony 4K Blu-ray player and a Toshiba HDDVD player...
