Have ordered a Pansat 250 and awaiting its delivery.
I am hoping this will solve my Q problems, but that is not the
only problem that I still have.

In the meantime:
I have put better guy wires on the dish and am going through
the process of changing connectors outside on the dish.
The lady at the computer store was kind enough to accept the
return of a cheap crimper for a $ better one. The coax at the
dish is bigger than the connectors she gave me. I've had to
strip the black rubber completely off to get it on. I don't think
this is right and I hope the connection won't come loose.
A compression crimper is out of sight price wise for the use I
would get out of it. Same for a Q-meter.
Maybe there are connectors made to fit coax. I don't know.
I have been advised by FaT Air not to use the screw on kind.

Setting up a BUD as a novice is fine but they don't tell you that
you need at Least $500 worth of equipment to do it.

She probably got you connectors for RG-59. Smaller diameter coax. Check the Coax for some markings, should be RG-6. But if you can make the ones you have work, Tape them well, should be good. PM also.

Pansat 250sm bin files

Pansatusa.com doesn't exist.
Panarex.com doesn't exist.

Pansatusa.net does exist. But there is no place to download the Bin Files.
Where does one get updates for Pansat receivers????????

Hello shankle! I had the same problem as your are when i got my neusat hd receiver.Seems that Pansat!like many others have little or no support anymore due to out of bussness or some other reason.There are a few sites around that will have the downloads you need but at a small cost to join first in order to download! Bummer.The receiver you just bought like my Neusat are good receivers its just that support isnt there anymore.Im sure that others here will come to your aid on the downloads you require.Have you tried using the receiver as is first? My guess is that it should work ok without any upgrades.

But, what happens if you need to restore the factory bin for
whatever reason?
And then there is the useless Stick and cable.
I wonder if the factory bin can be backed up to the USB Stick?
Not any good for anything else.

To tell you the truth, I am afraid of third party sites I have no knowledge
of. Very risky IMHO.

I got a USB stick with mine also!This is used for downloading latest firmware via USB.Dont worry about the factory bin!Im sure someone here has a download for you.Pansat receivers are pretty popular with users here.

The USb stick is far from worthless, On my 3500 I can back up the factory bin to the memory card, I would think it's the same with the 250. except using a usb stick. It's also used to backup your channel lists to the usb stick also. ( I do this regularly on the 9200 as now and then I get a little too quick on the remote while programming, lock it up, and voosh- all programming is lost. But it's restored in a minute from my backup. The 9200 uses a usb stick.) Cable is for those that want to use a computer to update firmware, as in some cases, may be faster than using the stick.
Just use the TV out as the other outputs are just improved methods of transporting video to a video monitor. You may have to start another thread to get help with programming the 250, as I have no experience with that particular receiver. Should be similar though.
Wow, pansatusa site down. I hope it's only a server error somewhere on the internet. I was on the site earlier this week I believe. Hope they don't close up shop. Even if that is the case, I'm not going to get rid of my Pansat's anytime soon.
BTW- you've hooked it up, what does the Q read?

I have to do more studying of the capabilities of the USB Stick before trying
to load the factory bin to the USB Stick. You say it's possible. That's a relief.
Will dig into this later. Right now it's tweeking and getting the Q way up.

equipment: New Chapparal corotor ll Plus, New KU band lnb, Norsat 8515 C-band,
New 250sm Pansat receiver.

I am running with the wiring set for C-Band Only according to Fat Air directions.
Today I finished programming C-band. Is it perfect? No. But getting good images.
Am satisfied with it.
So I connected the wiring for the KU-Band. Nothing came in then. No C-band or Ku-band. Changed the Pansat
diseq switch with the one I got with the new 250sm. Still no C/ku reception. I then unplugged the c-band and
plugged in the KU band. On amc9 (83d) I got stuff from Bloomberg and not Tuff TV which is supposed to be
on Amc9 KU.
Have no idea what's wrong. Think I followed Fat Air diagram correctly.
But being the novice I am who knows.

On to Ku on the BUD

First check programming of the 250SM-
If you have the disqc switch installed and both the C and Ku coaxs connected to
the disqc switch. You must program the 250Sm to select the proper port, for which band you're after. C band operation may work on port #1 even with improper programming. (it does om my disqc switch,[with a very slight degredation in sensitivity])

Another thing that will cause a no signal condition, is the feed focal legnth being off. It's very sensitive on a BUD operating at Ku frequencies. Much more sensitive than C band. You may have to adjust it to optimize Ku operation.
Another common possaiility is that you may have to bump the dish left or right, with the actuator, a click or two. to get Ku.
Then, when you get Ku working as best you can, another go-round of elevation and azimuth alignment, on Ku band, is in order. This is because the BUD has a narrower beam width at Ku, than on C band. Usually about 1/4 the beam width of C band.

I am following Fat Airs latest diagram in post #94.
This has both C and KU plugged in. This way I get no signals whatsoever.
I can find no setting on the Pansat 250sm to make it go one way or the other.
I assumed that by programming KU or C made it go to the proper place.

I do get signal from either one when connected separately.
What KU I have gotten so far seems to be pretty good.
