I figured it could not hurt, but as expected no noticeable change. While I am waiting for the TV tech I have managed to put another (roughly) 12 inches between the TV and couch. That seems to have made a difference. So, I'm guessing it very well could be the TV then. Yet it still bugs me that blu-ray and xbox 360 look fine. Is there that much of a difference between 1080p and 1080i that a small addition to the viewing distance would help?
 
You can't compare true HD from the Bluray player and what is offered from DISH. There will always be a distinct gap.
 
I understand, I was just surprised that moving slightly farther away made the 1080i (Dish) look so much better. We have been talking about upgrading our second tv to HD for a while now, so we are going to pick up a new tv this evening. Before we hook it up to the joey, I will hook it up to the hopper first. That'll give us the definitive answer on whether or not it is in fact the tv. Ordered a LG 42LM6200 for instore pickup at Best Buy, I will report back once I try the new TV.
 
It sounds to me like an issue with the TV. Many TV's picture settings are unique for each input. So, just because you tweaked the levels for BD and XB inputs, doesn't mean the Sat input is fine-tuned.

BTW, the closer you sit to any TV, the more you will notice imperfections in image quality. So, another 12 inches can certainly make a diff.
 
Went from 8 feet away to 9 feet away. New TV: No difference on 1080i, but with the Hopper set to 720p it looks better (smoother). The orignal TV: Same on issues on 720p as on 1080i. Could there be an issue with my original TV not accepting the 720p when the Hopper is set to it?

EDIT: 1080i looks better too, I must have caught it on a bad commercial :p. Still not outstanding PQ, but on par with what Cox provided. Any ideas as to why everything else looks great on the originally tv but Dish was horrible? I have each input set up differently on it as I prefer different settings for Blurays and Xbox. Still kind of bugging me, but it looks like there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. Now if they fix my VOD and my 55in set is figured out then I'll be all set.

So let me get this straight. The new HDTV looks better than the old/original on the Hopper? But it's still sub-par?
 
I may have missed this but have you checked the tv settings in the Hopper setup screen to see if its outputting HD?

Ok, not sure what happened here. Tried to post and it would not go through, so if this is duplicate I apologize. New display is not pixelating while displaying Dish, I have no idea why but there it is. I said the PQ was not outstanding, but on par with what we had through Cox is acceptable. It is getting better as I tweak the factory settings. Not sure why the old display pixelates only on Dish, and this one doesn't. Guess that will be the TV service guy's job to figure it out. In the mean time I will just use this new set in the living room. Apparently the old set is not wanting to play nice with resolutions other than 1080p. Worked fine with Cox, but it was also fine with the first Hopper. Something may have happened during installation or something. Whatever the case, I am covered at the moment and my warranty covers a replacement display if need be.

EDIT: Ok, after reading the last post I want to say I did not mean to come off as short. Had a great dane trying to climb on my lap. Anyway, I've been messing around with the picture settings and they picture does show improvement over the other set. I am going to hook the 55in to the joey and see if it displays the same issues, if it does then there is even more evidence pointing toward something wrong with the TV.

Hooked up the Joey via HDMI and the TV is claiming there is no input. Do I need to hook the composite cables up and then switch to hdmi through the Joey?
 
Pixelating and jumpy picture via Joey on the 55in. I had the same channel going on both TVs and there is a distinct difference, wish I had 2 blu-ray players to test that as well. My partner said his hunting game on the 360 looks less laggy and jumpy, I cannot comment on that because I have not really seen that particular game in action very much.

Yep, guess so. Unfortunately that doesn't account for the VOD problems...but hopefully the switching ISP and or update from Dish will rectify that :). I am noticing some picture distortion on the new set, but only during fast movement. When the picture is still it is very nice, so that tells me that it is the LED refresh rate (the new set is 120). Unfortunately I was spoiled with the 55in screen, so I'll be going a little crazy until the other one is repaired. It is nice being able to enjoy a nice (albeit small for my taste) picture though :p.
 
Update: Still looking better this morning. As far as the motion blur, I imagine the only sure fire way fix that would go with a plasma. Never owned one, but I am looking at the them online...wow much more cost effective and seem to carry the best reviews. I may just have the LG repaired, donate it to a family member and then go with a 50-60in Panasonic or Samsung plasma. A buddy of mine said it made his sammy plasma made everything look much better.

I've been selling tVs for years and Plasmas are by far my favorite. They offer the best bang for your buck and I feel they offer the best picture quality. Motion blur is never an issue and you never see a washed out picture from off angle viewing either. Samsung, LG and Panasonic all make great Plasmas. Panasonic probably makes some of the best rated ones overall.

Don't completely dis LG. I love my 60" plasma. Only thing with plasmas...they are mirrors. Don't place one opposite a non-covered window or other bright source.
