Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Complete noob here. About to set up a directv dish with a new lnb and fta box. Not spending a crap load of money on a rotator so I've been trying to find the best satellite to point at using lyngsat. I'm just a little curious about SES 10 or 67.0W. Lots of channels from a small company called KiwiSat. Seems like they're small and based out of Florida. What I noticed however is there is no encryption at least according to Lyngsat. I was wondering if someone could see if there's actually no encryption. I'm in upper Michigan if that matters.

That satellite can't be received above a line around the South border of Tennessee.

Your elevation in relation to sea level doesn't make any difference, just your latitude and longitude.

Also, I'm not sure if that service is still broadcasting, even if you were in the reception footprint.
Do you have any other recommendations of where to point. Channel number wise galaxy 19 would make the most sense but I'm not gonna sit and watch a bunch of religious crap.

According to Lyngsat, the Kiwisat service on 67W is probably encrypted (scrambled) similar to Dish or Direct TV so you couldn't receive it for free no matter where you are.

Your best bets on Ku band these days are 87W (PBS, news feeds), 99W (PBS, news feeds), 101W (English language channels from Japan, NewsNation, Taiwan, ReachTV), 105W (Infowars), 117W (BYU), 129W (Reuters news feeds). 97W has a few English channels worth watching too.

Concur, I've got 2 Ku fixed dishes looking at 97/101 and 99/105. Pretty satisfied with it for Ku.
