I agree on that point. A donation is a donation to me if it will help people. But to some posters here a donation by a Bush is a different type of donation I guess.

As far as this being an issue, you can bet the mainstream media will take every opportunity they get to "bash Bush" no matter which Bush it is.

I guess it is all how you look at it. I see someone giving money to a school system and that is a good thing to me. They are already using the software there and Mrs. Bush believes in her son and the system so she wants to see it expanded. And I like the idea of having control over your own money even if it is going to charity. That might actually encourage donations because people would have some control instead of throwing money into a bottomless pit and having no idea where it goes. And lets be honest, when there is a pile of money, there is waste to some extent.

I think people who are speaking out on this are mostly concerned that she is a Bush and want to make this an issue for political reasons. Also, ask yourself why this is a news story to begin with? Why is Barbara Bush's donation and what she does with it a major concern right now?

In case you didn't know the answer-it is a negative story about a "Bush" and any negative story about them is greeted with open arms by the left-wing media and they look at it as a chance to undermine the President.

this may have turned into one of the stupidest threads in recent history around here. It now has nothing to do with a donation and who it went to. It all has to do with which side of the isle you happen to sit on.
I'm glad she made a donation, good for her! I do think she set herself up for this kind of ridicule by earmarking part of it for one of her sons companies though.

As far as I know Mrs. Bush's money is HER Money. She earned it one way or another. Who the heck are any of us to criticise what she does with it? This is America, part of living in a free society is to use your money any way you want, as long as it is legal.

Its always easy for those who are not in the upper class to judge those who are, and criticise how they are using their money. If it that important to you that she is doing what you think is wrong with her money, then go out and work your butt off making a lot of your own money and make up for what you think she should do with HER money.

I think I understand what you are saying. However:

Mrs. Bush is not taking her money from foreigners like the Money-Changers in the Bible that Jesus got angry with. And if you are suggesting that someone should criticise her with her money... you are not a sinless man who is God's son. Jesus is!

No lie. I'm as guilty as the next man. Just takes a man to be humble and admit it, and hold themselves and others accountable in my book. I'm certainly not above reproach.

But to correct--the Bush clan HAS taken LOTS of money from foreigners (a whole laundry list of deals and business arrangements w/ questionable/security sensitive foreign entities going back through grandpa Bush, the Georges and on down to young Neil). That's the rub, an enormous series of conflicts of interest that many feel cripples both their proper judgement and their credibility in several economic, political, environmental and security matters. As these folks keep tip-toeing around their "friends", it shows they are quite fervent in putting truth, justice and the interests of the American people second to their first priority--maintaining that crude but 'practical' aphorism, "Don't s*** where you eat." I'm tired of these folk (and, again, I count much of D.C. in this, this isn't diametrically partisan) using our trust and good intentions to their own ends--aren't you?

Once again the demogods speak! Barbara Bush is probably one of the finest First Ladies we have ever had. She ranks right up there with Mrs Johnson (LBJ's) wife as to her concern for the welfare of others.

We all make money from foreigners. We buy from foreigners. Heck all our roots are from another country -- that is unless you are 100% American Indian and then your roots are still probably from China. So lets cut the bull and just appreciate that she is making an effort. Let's celebrate that she supports her son who is trying to run a business and let's remember that the children that her support will help will never know where the software came from nor the money. Hopefully, they will benefit.

And, yes, we all buy from foreigners. I have lots of electronics and a penchant for reliable Japanese cars. What we don't do is set up back room deals for ourselves and simultaneously set policy that affect the lives of millions of others--and doing the latter in support of (or at least circumvent interfering with) said deals, regardless of whether those policies are the best thing for the constituents we 'serve'. Once again, dodging the point made. Congrats.

Oh, and nepotism rarely serves anyone other than the related parties and their tailcoat-riding cronies. If it does--it's pure chance. Don't insult our intelligence to suggest otherwise.

She's being criticized for feigning charity by slipping in a double tax write-off for the Bush clan. Oh, and it's easy to tout the 'big giving' of those who have a lot of cash...but let's just not ask how they made that money or who they've stepped on or screwed over to grab that cash to begin with. Unfortunately, the nest egg for these "saints" started w/ some nice bank deals w/ some unsavory types and went downhill from there. You must be the type that sins like hell and thinks showing up at church for the big civic 'show of piety' by dropping big bills in the plate makes up for everything. Don't worry, many see through the meaningless and transparent facade (including the One who matters most, but, hey, that's just a matter of faith, right?). There are a good deal of wealthy decent people...but they're far outnumbered by the contrary. Unfortunately the following quote is all too true, just ask your friends in Houston who used to work in that big tall tower downtown.
