Help with External HD

I got a new hd for christmas to use as my external. I would like to use my old drive on my computer again but Windows will not allow me to access it. Can anyone explain how to reformat the disk to use with Windows? Thank you.

is it connected as primary hd. or secondary ?

it is attached to my pc via usb. there are no other external drives. i can see the hd in the system menu but not as a drive on the my computer section.

right click "my computer" choose "manage"

go to storage, disk management.

find your drive, delete the unknown partitions, then create a new partition and format it.
