Excellent find......why can't we all get together and do the same? If nothing else, it would bring attention to this issue in the media and possibly cost Dish HD subscribers, which we all know is the only thing they would be concerned about is $$$$$ lost.

Anybody on this forum a lawyer or work for the media?

That's the problem. A bunch of folks say cut back on channels and improve quality. Then there's the group that says when are you going to carry channel such and such. Heck, even with E*'s PQ going down the tubes, the owner of this site was trying to get E* to add Cineman-HD so he could see the original Star Wars movies that they're going to be showing. They can't make everyone happy, someone's going to be pi**ed off.

So you are advocating doing nothing? That's akin to a prosecutor telling a victim's family, "We're not going to prosecute the man who killed your husband & father in cold blood. We know the guy killed him, and we have a mountain of evidence to convict. However, there is a possibility the jury may not convict the individual for his crimes. If so, we may wind up provoking this murderer into committing even more heinous crimes when, in fact, there is some indication he may eventually grow out of his killing phase and lead a productive life as a law abiding member of our society."

Anyway, let's look at why the Court's ruling is important:

1. The Court acknowledges that customers have a right to sue DirecTV for damages brought about by their actions. The court ruled D* cannot take away an individuals legal rights simply because they slipped it into the customer agreement; it is unlawful and unenforceable item in the contact.

2. The FCC's ATSC HD standards only cover terrestrial broadcast and cable. As far as the FCC is concerned, DBS providers and their substandard HD-Lite falls through the legal loophole when it comes to their regulatory control.

3. The FTC may very well have regulatory control over DBS when it comes to their deceptive advertising practices and fraud; it is a fraud to sell HD-Lite to their customers as HD, and customers certainly aren't receiving the services being advertised. They can package the turd as nicely as they wish---and even wrap it with a pretty pink bow---but the fact remains that HD-Lite is still a turd.

Customers are paying for HD service and D*, and E* for that matter, is knowingly and wilfully substituting this service with HD-Lite, an inferior product. Fix it, stop charging a premium for it, or call it what it is...HD-Lite. I say it's about time someone with deep pockets (and hopefully a good team of lawyers) is pushing this issue.

We need more of this to share light to the public what deceiving practice these satellite companies are using to lure new customers or exisiting customers. Calling it HD instead of HD Lite or sub-HD or Enhanced TV. We all can win by this one by bringing to the public eye.

Right, and don't forget to go after your local stations that are also broadcasting "HD-Lite" and the Cable companies that are retransmitting them as "HD".

Congratulations, you've already ruled the case, now go after the locals and the cable companies advertising HD but giving you HD-Lite. Also make sure the camera people are using full HD res and size when shooting and make sure every remastered film in HD is full up to specks.

You are really good at bringing up HD-Lite every second of the day like an obsessive compulsive disorder, so continue to do so. There is a lot of people and companies to sure over this.

Rome was not built in a day... HD Lite is a big topic on internet boards but in the media is just coming out of the closet. These are babies steps and I am glad that is coming out. I do not know what is your opposition to this since you as a customer should be glad and benefit from this. The only unhappy ones are the ones that actually have to gain something by HD Lite (AKA DirecTv super powers). Customers see this as a small victory (at least bring it to the general public eye).

As a customer I don't see how this lawsuit is going to get us more HD channels in the best quality in the long run. Its just a matter of time that the sat companies will have more birds and will eventually give us the quality and channels we want.

This is just feeding the socialist monopoly cable companies more ammunition.

NO, what they are doing is laying the groundwork to get you the most amount of HD possible with the limited bandwidth. The future is HD and if they don't do this now and pave the way, the cable companies will become the HD leaders and squash them. When they get the bandwith, they most likely will give the full HD quality.If they don't, they will perish.

Look at the big picture people and think about the future. Its all a game. Siding with a stupid lawsuit (which is really siding with the cable comps.) thinking it will give you full rez and a lot of HD today is being very naive.

Yes they have, 5 or so years ago D*'s SD picture was better than E*'s, now its reversed.

Your "laying grondwork" philosophy is flawed. The reason that I pay a premium for HD is so that I can watch HD right now. Not tomorrow, but today. It's very frustrating to watch the low quality HD that is so widespread these days. I want to watch my current channels in high quality much more so than getting more and more low quality channels that are unenjoyable to watch due to the poor quality.

Of course I am happy when we get new channels, but not when they're low quality. New channels should only be added when there's enough bandwidth to do so in high quality real HD.

The problem with ALL you guys that would rather have a couple of True-HD channels instead of the heard of HD-Lite channels that we currently have is that you wouldn't be able to agree on which couple to keep.
DISH may be an illutionist by creating HD channels out of thin air without the bandwidth to support it.
But I think its better than DISH being a magician with 2 or 3 really good card tricks.

Remember we want DISH to get as many subs as possible to offset cost. And DISH will gain more with more channels than lose to videophiles that critique every pixel. In fact I wonder if DISH has lost any to HD-Lite, you wouldn't think so to read this forum.
I myself would love to see a mass exodus of HD-Liters so the forum could get back to an enthusiast hang-out instead of a place to gripe and complain.

you've got it wrong. When did E* or D* even improved the quality of their channels. Let me see when E* or D* did not provide SD LIL their SD channels were quite impressive in SD. Since they started providing SD LIL, the PQ of the SD channels went down the drain and NEVER NEVER EVER the PQ was restored to what it was before. What incentive do they have now to restore the PQ to the status it was before---NONE. The same can happen to HD no matter if they can fill up the skies with satellites. They have learned that as long as they can get away with it they will be ok. We customers suffer the consequences of paying for inferior quality. You are dreaming if you think any provider will ever restore PQ on their own. It has never been done and it will never happen. The only way it will happe is if they get pressured by customers by either refusing to pay them or by bringing into the public eye their decetive ways of providing Picture Quality. That is reality. You are living in a fantasy world.
