i am hoping to expanding this well because this happen to me twice now and i don't why, when a show get cancel at the last minute, and later the next week or a month later the network decided to show the that episode and they put the correct run date and HR34 doesn't pick it's its up, do you know what caused this?

It's difficult to know without specifics.
Are you sure the HR34 did not "pick it up"? Just because it was not in the todo list does not mean it would not be recorded. Did the Hr34 actually not record the episode at all?

it didn't record it, and its wasn't in my "To Do List" when i notice it half way through the program was "new", the funny thing is the show i was recording was "Shark Tank" and the first episode that its didn't pick up, it was that show that postponed because the Boston bomber the second episode record ok, the other time it happen was with the NY hurricane last year

I haven't seen anyone else report this problem, which makes me think it was some issue with the guide data from your local affiliate. Like maybe it was not marked first run.
Was it the same channel last time you had the problem?

Really, This is and has been a common issue for as long as I can remember. ON any HR. I have many Dup. recordings on both my HR23 and HR34 when first run was chosen. I found if the info doesn't have a aired date then the receiver doesn't have a clue. Maybe Directv should start there.

maybe its could be, local problem because its was ABC and CBS, last time the program was on CBS but i will keep my eyes on it

I have found that when you schedule a program to record and it is cancelled for whatever reason, that that particular time slot will record anyway. And if the network decides to show it at a later date, tough luck.

No, the OP is reporting a different issue, missing a recording when the episode is preempted by coverage of a disaster. Getting duplicate recordings of the same show is a well-known guide data issue. If a channel sets the data to "first run" the DVR will record it, even if it isn't first run. Several channels are guilty of this, Comedy Channel being one of the worst offenders.
