East and West Network Feeds

New to D* and was wondering about those E and W Network feeds I see in my guide. Can anyone subscribe to these channels?

nope not any more ... I am grandfathered for the SD on all but abc, had the same in HD but lost all a year or so ago... (unless you could get waivers)

Congress passed a law a few years ago protecting the viewing territories of your local network affiliates known as "Designated Market Areas" . The only local channels you will get normally are those in your DMA. However, if you live in a rural area which does not yet receive channels on DirecTV from your local DMA, then you will get the Los Angeles and NYC affiliates.

Correction there...if you don't receive local channels from DirecTV you still have to do a waiver process for those you can receive over the air.

And sometimes the stations won't grant waivers even if you cannot receive them OTA.

thanks, I thought the waiver process would be pretty automatic for those that live where no OTA signals are present
