Just a thought...you could purchase a 1k.4, then convert it to a 1k.5 using the pan from your PLUS dish. I did exactly that, and signal increased.

He could go with a 1000.2 and be done with it or he can monkey around rigging a 1000.2 LNB on a 1000+

I believe you are right. It's time to just get the job done and watch TV. The 1000.2 dish eliminates the DPP44 switch, power inserter and 4 long coax runs which will make the system more reliable and might even improve the signal strength.

If you have /had 118.7 that is a DISH 500PLUS the largest dish currently used. A 500+ and a 1000+ use the same reflector just a different LNB.

The new DPP LNB for the 1000+ would eliminate the DPP44 switch. and runs around $40 on ebay if you do your shopping.

The reason 129 is so bad is a D500 the LNB's are already 4.5 degrees off boresite.

I was thinking about this last night and wondering why the LNB's are 4.5 degrees off borsite using the D500? Are they 4.5 degrees off using a dish 1000.2?

no. On a D1000.2 119 is in the middle. The other 2 are 9 degrees off but the dish pan is bigger (compared to a Dish500)

I got off the pot and ordered a new dish 1000.2 dish and LNBF system tonight with expected delivery this Friday.

My new dish 1000.2 was shipped and will be arriving on Thursday just in time for the weekend install.

Questions:
1) What are the advantages of adding a second dish to receive 61.5?
2) Can 129 and 61.5 be received at the same time?
3) If so, what signal does it then use for a given channel? The one with the higest signal strength?

You mention having trouble getting 129, though it may well not be with a 1000.2 I still wonder why not go EA? (though WA is much less prone to snow covering the dish and causing signal loss)

I have the EA (not 77) plus 119/118. I get USA HD off 119, all else off the EA. Why? Don't know. It has always been this way. I previously had 119/110 and got HBO HD (ch300 only) and USA HD off of the WA, all else from the EA. Quite sometime ago some of us tried to see what a mixed system would pick, and it seemed to always get the channels from the lower numbered sats. My system does, and did even when I was listed with Dish as being a WA, (For a specific reason no longer needed) so that does not make a difference.

The only advantage to adding 61.5 would be as a back-up to get a few channels, including your locals should something happen on the WA. 72 might give you more redundancy, but not for your locals.....

I am confused about your actual dish configuration.

You say you have a D500 with an lnb added to it for 129 - I've NEVER heard of that configuration and if a Dish tech saw it he should know instinctively that it will not work because the 129 lnb is outside the focal point of the reflector.

You must have either a D1000, D1000.2, a D1000+ or a D1000.4WA already, or somebody did a major screw-up in installing your dish.

Assuming you have the correct dish (one of the 4 listed in the previous sentence), and still have very low signal on 129, you either need to switch to eastern arc with a D1000.4EA dish or add a wing dish specifically for 129.

If you do however still have a D500 Frankensteined by adding a lnb for 129, then you DEFINITELY do need to try a D1000.2 dish, because the D500 cannot see that added lnb, no wonder your 129 signal is so low.

All multiple lnb reflectors are designed to be slightly out of focus in the horizonal plane so those outer two lnbs get adequate signal, there is no boresight on multi-lnb reflectors, the pattern is an oval slightly more than 19 degrees wide and several degrees tall, not a round spot a couple of degrees in diameter.

Dish designed the D500, D1000, D1000.2, D1000.4, etc. all as compromises to get approximately the same signal, so just putting one lnb on one of these will get you nowhere.

You need to buy a single focus dish, probably a 24 or 30 inch reflector and mount your 129 lnb at the focal point of it and connect it either by a DPP44 or the auxillary input on the D500.

The obvious solution is to get the correct equipment, a D1000.2 for Western Arc or a D1000.4 for Eastern Arc, which you apparently do not have.

If you have Dish do your upgrade, they should install the proper equipment and make it work before they leave the scene of the crime.

If they do not, do not hesitate to make them come back and do it right.

He has a D500+ (which gets the 118.7 satellite) because his locals use to be on 118.7. They are now on both EA and WA (61.5 & 129)

I thought the 500+ and 1000+ were the same pan except for the extra LNB. But I know popcorn wants to get rid of running 4 lines from the dish into the house (to the DPP44) and go with a 1000.2 so its just one line to the receiver.

if he owns the equipment it may cost him more to have DIsh do it...after all he is a FTA'er so I'm sure he can install a dish on his own

yes. Any add on's or freeviews if there is a HD version (and you have a dish to get HD) you will get it in HD
