DIRECTV Satellite is not currently available for new customers in your area

Satellite TV is not available in my rural area of Western NC, only streaming.
Rural does not mean the same thing as it did just a few years ago.

I live in a rural area, well water, septic, lots of land, we have gigabit and the new fiber build out is finally being finished.

Extreme rural areas have StarLink as a option.

The restrictions are DMA wide, so it doesn't matter if you're in the namesake city of your DMA or 70+ miles away in the fringes. i.e for the NYC DMA, it isn't just the 5 boroughs, but also zip codes for eastern Suffolk Long Island, Dutchess, Ulster and Sullivan Counties in upstate NY, Ocean County in central NJ and Pike County PA. While zip codes in the next counties over like Monroe PA (Wilkes Barre/Scranton DMA), Burlington NJ (Philly DMA), Delaware NY (Binghamton DMA) and Columbia NY (Albany DMA) come back as available.

...while NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, DC, Detroit, Boston, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Cleveland, Hartford and St Louis didn't. The restrictions are DMA wide
Well I don't know what's going on, but I just tried a zip in downtown Chicago 60601 & it shows new service being available.
Same thing when I did Belleville, IL (St Louis DMA) zip 62222.

FWIW, couple dealers on the dealer board thought these restrictions might be for "high risk" areas - ie: areas where DTV has high levels of sub churn. (nice way of saying "redlining")

It does some weird things if you start changing zip codes. If I enter my home zip code it tells me it is not available. If I then go back and change the zip code to a zip code I know does allow new installs then the ordering process continues. Then if I go back and enter my home zip code again I don't get the popup that new installs are not allowed and allows me to go through the complete ordering process up to actually ordering it though I have to use my neighbors street address in the order form because if I use mine it tells me there is satellite service already at that location.

The locals lookup on that page is a separate process and doesn't go through the availability check.

Try using a private window to get the zip code popup at the shop/dtvs URL. I just used both of those zip codes and got the sat not available message.

I used your link (didn't use a private window) & yes, I got the NA message on both of those same zips.
However, when I put in my zip 62702, it DID go thru...BUT, the locals channels section was then from Chicago 60601, as b4pjoe mentioned above.

Another DTV cluster-f#$k o_O

Yep. Most folks in my neck of the woods switched to Starlink a few years ago. Then Spectrum Fiber expanded to this area and now even the Starlink dishys are disappearing. I'm one of the few hold outs as I kept my Starlink equipment as a fail over to Spectrum, which experiences frequent outages during storms and high winds.

I heard from someone who works for one of the distributers, and they said they were told this was going to happen in about a year.

They are trying to get answers too.

But for now the push is to streaming.

One can understand why they are flogging streaming

The May Nielsen Gauge report is out and streaming has surpassed the others.

The May Nielsen Gauge report is out and streaming has surpassed the others.

Shows the On Demand Streaming services like Netflix, Paramount+, etc are the future for TV Programming.

Since Broadcast and Cable Channels are continuing to put up less and less new content, along with streaming services being less expensive and putting up tons of new content, going to be impossible to stop that trend.
