A few days ago i got an old dish 625 for craps and gigs and when i plugged it into my 500 it said programming not authorized but IMMEDIATELY after when i went to the guide it had this misical note screen on an encrypted/ not authorized channel. Thats pretty cool

I believe that's a graphic generated by the receiver. It's tuned to a SiriusXM music channel in your pic, and those are just audio-only feeds, so there would just be a black screen otherwise. It's kinda like how the Music Choice channels on DirecTV show the DirecTV logo before they then show a bouncing screensaver with title/artist/album info.

I assume depending on the receiver the graphic is different. A couple weeks ago I was somewhere using a Wally receiver and the audio only stations (the SiriusXM ones) had a graphic on the screen with the artist and title. Then it changed the little graphic to the album cover if there was one (I mainly listened to the 80's and a couple others). It was never a black screen
(no internet plugged into receiver. No internet at location)

On some TV's, like Sony, if you tune to a music channel you can click a button and turn off the TV screen and only have the audio feed, hence a black screen. Saves wear and tear on the screen as well as some energy usage. My Bravia has that option.
