Can’t pair remote with hopper 3

I'm trying to pair my 54.0 remote with my newly acquired hopper 3. I just noticed the 2G antenna for the remote didn't come with the system. Is there a work around until I can buy the 2G antenna?

Any piece of wire, ie speaker wire will work until then.
