Is the pro-rated cancellation fee different for a dvr upgrade rather than a new customer account with D*? I know with E* they charge 17.50 a month for new customers and 10.00 a month for upgrades.

E* is short for Echostar or in other words, Dish Network. D* is short for Directv. Anyway, I don't think so. I think either way they prorate it the same. I believe $20 a month.

Back when there were 5 satellite companies 3 ended in star
Primestar (Directv bought them up)
Echostar (aka Dish Network....the company Charlie started was Echostar)
Alphastar (they didnt last long)
Directv and USSB...USSB had thre Viacom nets and the movie channels. So at one point you could get 2 bills for your services

So folks started using P*, A*, E* and by default D*
