Sure, but if my assumptions about the 612 and the Denon not being cable ready are correct, then he had to have the tv on the wrong input.
 
For a service charge, Dish now has a geek squad that will set up your home theater for you. I don't know how good they are, since, I set up my own.

So this won't solve his problem, and he'll likely have the same problem with his next provider, so this course of action solves what?

Do you expect the company that sells you a router to tell you how to connect all brands and models of PCs, printers, NAS, etc, and do all the troubleshooting for you?

Yes...and again...from the 612 HD setup screen. Re-read post #5. And, that setting is totally irrelevant to the Denon problem

I don't think it is. If he is seeing Cable, Off Air, IRC, HRC on the tv screen, he has to have the television on the wrong input. The only place that can come from is the cable or off air input on the television. That's where his problem is. If he changes the input on the television to HDMI, he should be good to go. He said he couldn't, but I don't think that's correct. That's why I asked for the make and model of the television so we can show him how to change to the HDMI input.

NO, NO, NO. You have already admitted you don't know Dish equipment, obviously. You seem to be blind to the info provided...post #5, and my twice confirmed posts. If I need to repeat I will. The Cable, Off Air, IRC, HRC IS AN OPTION IN THE 612 HD SETUP MENU, which ultimately only effects the tuning of OTA channels. He is NOT seeing it on his TV menu. And if he did, it would, again, only apply to the scanning of channels. There are no such input options on ANY TV.

So, all you had to do was confirm my question in post #18 when I asked if the 612 was cable ready. You never actually confirmed that information. Instead you decided to be snarky. Thanks so much. I was trying to help.
 
I confirmed that if the 612 was cable ready or not, it had no bearing on the subject at hand. Call it snarky if you want.

No you didn't. You said it came from the 612 hd setup screen. That wasn't what I asked. All you had to say was that the 612 is cable ready. That's what I asked, if it was cable ready.
 
Snarky?That's a new one.:D It sure sounds like the problem lies with the denon receiver.I have a 612 connected to a pioneer 522k and it works great.

When you select "Input" on the remote for your TV, what options do you see? If you see HDMI-1 select that. Make sure the hdmi out from your 612 goes into the hdmi-1 on the Dennon and then connect the hdmi-out to hdmi-1 on your TV. What happens?
 
Connect an HDMI cable from the 612 to the Denon CBL/SAT HDMI input. Connect the HDMI monitor output of the Denon to the TV. Select SAT as the input. Should work no problem.
 
Sorry guys, I'm so used to getting notified when there is a response in a forum that I keep waiting for that.

First, I talked to Denon today and they tried to help me getting it to work and they gave up so we/they're assuming
it's the Denon.

I also posted in the AVS forum and they said that the Denons apparently are finicky as hell.
They recommended a few other receivers. I think my next step would be to send it back for a refund
unless you guys want to keep trouble shooting it for the sake of curiosity 'cause quite frankly, the last
thing I need is more finicky hardware. I already call my house the Twilight Zone 'cause $hit happens
here that doesn't happen anywhere else.

To answer a few questions. I have no idea about the cable ready question and all I know is that I have a 612.

Dish was no help as the dude had no clue what he was doing although the Denon guy was a little better, he wasn't
very knowledgeable.

The Cable, IRC and all that stuff is stuff I saw in the 612's menu on the same page where you set up the 1080i, 16x9 and all that.

Yes, I do know how to change the inputs on the tv and I DO have it on the right input so that's not the problem.

The TV is a Sharp LC-52LE820UN and I also uploaded the Denon manual which is available here.

Alright, I'm off to see if I can change my notification settings.

By the way, here's the thread on the AVSforum...

My requirements for an AV receiver seem pretty straight forward to me but apparently they're not :(

I think you have your answer.

Trade offs. Look at Onkyo & Yamaha. Detailed equalizer control may have to be sacrificed.
