You can connect your recvr to the internet from anywhere that the internet is available, VPN or not, doesn't really matter.

Its possible, but not probable ...
They would have to have a reason to be looking at specifically that person.

if you're looking to use the whole home feature, you'd have to use a VPN back to the home router. but im not sure such a feat has been tried before.

I don't think there is enough bandwidth to make whole home work through a vpn
