slaving receivers question

Can 2 receivers slave off of each other or is slaving just a one way thing?

I think they could, with switches involved.
Imagine stb #1 aimed at 91W and stb #2 aimed at 125W .
1) STB #1 has a Diseqc switch, port 1 is the 91W lnbf, Port 2 is the IF out of stb #2.
2) STB #2 has a Diseqc switch, port 1 is the 125W lnbf, port 2 is the IF out of stb #1 .

It would be kludgey but I think it would work . I wouldn'
t think that I'd be happy with that solution, though. Pretty limited.

I was wondering if a direct connection between the IF jacks are possible but it appears that it isn't.

That would probably result in killing the power supplies ( or at least one of them ). It certainly wouldn't do them any good.

Why would that kill the power supply? Isn't this just an IF output, a baseband, a band of frequencies?

There is voltage involved , either 13V or 18V depending upon the polarity. If one receiver puts out 13V while the other puts out 18V, I can't predict what will happen, if the output are tied together. Voltage differences result in current which causes things to burn up. Some recievers, like the Mercury II handle their IF output pretty well , other recievers , like my CS8000 , appear to be very sensitive about what is attached to it. We can't generalize about any particular mfg's implementation of the If output circuitry.

I wanted the 2 receivers to be connected to separate antennas and then pass on what they receive to each other. Apparently, that's not possible.

Re-read the immediate reply to your initial post. brentb636 describes a way which I see nothing technically wrong with.

I have considered this, although never tried it, in a one-way fashion. I wanted a receiver with a bunch of fixed dishes to see the motorized dish of another receiver. A port on a switch to the loop-out of the second receiver was a valid option.

this may sound dumb. I have my AZBOX SLAVED OFF MY COOLSAT. ( cuz azbox motor control sucks really hard) I only get whatever polarity the coolsat is seeing.....but if I ran a separate cable to the spare LNB connector I could still control the motor with the coolsat but get all the TPs at the Azbox...can move it to the good tv too.
