I am thinking of switching from cable to either Dish or Directv, I know that I can get a HD receiver from Directv for free, but when I go to the Dish site they want a 50 dollar upgrade fee, is here any way to get it for free through Dish?

Right now I know of no way to get the 211 for free, even for new customers. I tried to get one for my sister and couldn't.

The 622 is $299 if you want DVR. The 211 is $50 I think.

But with the 18 month commitment you get the $49 activation fee credited on your first bill. In addition with the Silver, GOld or Platinum packs Dish will give you a $10 credit off your bill for 10 months.

D* has a 2 year commitment regardless.
