HDMI to DVI adapter

Where would be the best place to buy a HDMI to DVI adapter? My TV only has a DVI and I would like to hook up my 622. Also, would the brand make a difference on quality or should they all be about the same on quality?

I have a DVI cable and my TV is DVI, so can I buy a connector that my DVI cable will connect to with HDMI on the other end to connect to my 622?

For just a buck or two more you can skip the adapter and get a DVI-HDMI cable. I always prefer to minimize connections.

I bought the DVI to HDMI adapter for my set from monoprice.

My TV has DVI, the VIP211 has HDMI. The original cable was DVI only, so the adapter was fine.

I may eventually change the cable, because there is now a lot of weight at the back of the 211, so I supported the cable and adapter.

I would get the entire cable too and not the adapter. I used the adapter for a while and like intrac said its very heavy and the connector wont stay plugged in unless you tie it up with a piece of string to support it.

I used the adapter for over a year on my 942 and use it currently on my 622 with no problems at all.

The adapter Dish supplied with the 942 was a good one. But it would still be better to not use it.

For me it is one of those "if it ain't broke" situations. After seeing all the problems that people have had with their connections, I'm not about to change something that is working perfectly.

Has anyone that's using the HDMI on the 622 tried using the component? I have not tried HDMI on my 622 yet, but I thought the component looked a little better than the DVI on my old 811.

I have both connected (and even composite, for that matter!) and I occassionally switch between the two for a comparison. As I have posted before, I find the HDMI connection picture a bit sharper, so I generally use that one. The component connection picture is a bit "warmer" (better color saturation) so for some programs I prefer that connection. This is all based on my default TV picture settings. When I have more time to experiment with it, I will play with the TV's "color pallette" in the HDMI mode to see if I can improve the color to equal that of the component mode. If I can do that then I may never return to component for the HD connections (unless my HDMI output fails again!). YMMV...

I've been comparing and tweaking both component and HDMI for the past 3 days. I find the HDMI just a tad sharper and it seems to render better blacks on my TV. The color saturation and brightness require very different settings, which makes it difficult to directly compare them. However it is my perception that with the proper settings, there is little difference between the two, except for the deeper black levels from the HDMI.

I also had an 811 and 942 and I liked the component outputs much better than the DVI from the 811. On the 942, it was very close. On the 811 the DVI looked more washed out, and SD didn't look very good.

I believe this can vary considerable from TV to TV, as the HDMI standards and implementations are not consistent across different brands, and even on different TVs within brands and types.

Has anybody tried their "2X1 Manual HDMI Switch - Push Button Type"? I only have one DVI input in my tv and now with the 622 and HD-DVD it's a pain to keep unplugging from one to the other.

Here's a 5 to 1 switch with a remote control for $200, or $240 with cable sets:

cool. Thanks. I think I'll wait to see if I 'll keep the HD-DVD. although I could still use the switch for my D* Tivo. I did noticed a decrease in PQ when I went from HDMI to component with it.

Some stereo recievers are out that handle multiple hdmi inputs.
Something to think about if you're also looking to upgrade your sound to 5.1 or better.

I am using that one and it works just fine. I was contemplating purchasing the remote controlled one but for now since I only have the DVD and the Dish box the push button does the job.

If anyone can benefit from it, I have a DVI to HDMI cable that I no longer use. Purchased it from monoprice and used it for few days before I upgraded to the 211 receivers. It is the #2285 24AWG 15ft w/ jacket.
