If I have the basic Dish Flex package, do I need to purchase the News package to use the Fox News app on my Roku or Firestick?

It's a separate service so the add on isn't necessary to your flex pack.

Are you sure? "TV provider login required." If you don't subscribe to Fox News in your tv package, doesn't look like the app authentication would work.

Fox Nation is the only stand-alone service I'm aware of..."No cable subscription required". Not sure if it comes with an app.
The other Fox programs require a separate subscription with a carrier service like Dish, Direct PSVUE etc.

Hello Logdog. In order to gain access to the FOX News app, you would need a subscription to the FOX News channel. If you have our MyDISH App installed or would like to visit MyDISH.com, you can add the News Pack on and gain access to that app in a couple minutes. -Caleb S
