722 Dish Receiver: Connection diagnostics

I have dial tone at the end of the telco cable I plug into the 722 telco jack (tested with a lineman's handset) but the 722 diagnostics show no telephone connection.
Ideas anyone?

Are you sure you plugged into the tel port, not the Ethernet, a common mistake?

or the modem is fried, also common

Unless you want caller ID on the tv screen, there is no real need to have a telephone connected anymore.

The 3rd 722 they have sent me had a defective modem. Seems common.

Installer here - yes very common for that modem to tank and besides caller id on the screen is pointless to have connected now. Most people don't even have a home phone anymore so even more pointless to keep it if you haven't cut that cord yet to save some $$.
