Do the wireless joeys require a different hopper than the 2000 ?

Since the last software update my Hopper goes into standby even after the guide update. I turn it back on after the guide update finishes and it will standby 2 or 3 more times after that. Anyone else experience this ?

I have gotten my hands on an HIC and thought I would give it a try. Can I replace the 2way splitter feeding the 2 Joeys with a 3way and connect the HIC to the 3rd port. I have a 3way on hand that the Dish guy left. Thanks
