Blows my mind too. HBO is most popular premium network. Hell, it was the first! You may also notice the paltry D* lineup as well, and the two measly HD channels. There clearly is some major issue between the two. It could stem from the fact HBO is owned by Time Warner, and D* is their competitor.

I have to agree with the OP, Directv's SD channels are hideous! Not quite as bad as Youtube, but pretty close. Because of that, I will only watch their HD channels. The same goes for Starz on demand (SD)movies. I won't watch them because the compression is way too high.

Because they are not airing network programming and commercials that would conflict with stations in other DMAs.
