DISH Remote Access

Do any of you have DISH Remote Access working? I have trouble and cannot get to DISH to answer my emails.

Mine is working fairly well. What kind of problem do you have? My only problem is if I set a recording to an HD channel, it gets changed to an SD channel.

I am having trouble just signing up for it!

I have 3 receivers but only one is hooked up to the internet (but it's the one I do most of my watching on). But when I go to log onto the site and register for the service, I get stuck with the following:

Connecting to receiver. Please wait...

If your receiver remains offline,
using your remote, press menu
then 6, 1, 9, 1 to check the status.

The problem is I know it's online, but even if it wasn't there isn't an option 9 in the menu-6,1,9,1

I use menu 6191 all the time. It brings you to a screen that tells you if your receiver is connected. It may be connected to your router(and thus have an IP), but it may not be connected to the necessary sling servers. Maybe you are pressing the numbers too quickly. Each number brings you to a new screen where you press the next number. I cannot recall the menu title associated with each of the numbers offhand and I am not near my TV. Perhaps someone else knows them.

How do you know it is "online" if you can't get to the broadband menu?

I'm going to take one for the team and ask which receiver we're talking about.

I know it's online. I can access all the online features.... But I'll take one for the team understanding you are probably new to this.

I was adding the third dual and it said online in menu-6-3-connection and online connected in menu-6-1-9-1 and it could get the "name" of the receiver when setting up but it would not get past the connecting bar. My son reseated the connector (his-to-use 622) and it then worked. The phone-like jacks are fairly reliable but either a pin was lifted or shorted--so it wasn't the cable nor the second switch between the DSL and the 622.

A note, you can set up "n" receivers but it only displays information from one at a time--the one you will be setting. Would like some way to see/set the schedules of both 722s as one.

That said, the display is easier to use than the receiver itself except conflict resolution is sometimes better done on the receiver because you can see the list of events nearby. It could use a little longer timeout because I need more time to look up the shows before deciding or just reading boards.

The star counts there are slightly lower than on the Dish/Tribune's info. For now my interest requires 2+1/2 on Sling and 3 for Dish. My initial load was so big I have been requiring 3 for Sling. My current cutoff is about 7.6 on IMDB civilian rating--on average 4 stars above Tribune's critics.

VOD does not work via the internet. It comes in over the satellite.

I figured that a non-x22 receiver must be involved but it was like pulling hen's teeth to badger the information out.

1. press the menu button on the remote
2. select "System Setup"
3. select "Installation"
4. select "Broadband Setup"
5. select "Network Setup"

Check to see that the status is "Connected Online".

Since the ViP612 lacks some of the features that the x22 models have, the menu structure may be different.

You must also configure the website to talk to your ViP612 by giving it the correct receiver number information. Verify the R number carefully and if it is wrong, add the receiver with the actual R number and make it the default receiver.

I have four HD DVRs working fine (722, 622, and two 612). It took a bit of work at each receiver to get them to stay online, but now no problems.

VOD does not work via the internet. It comes in over the satellite.

VOD comes over the satellite, but it also can come from the internet as well if you use the DishOnline feature.

Remote Access gives you live two-way communications with the HD DVR. You can check to see what you have available to watch and even delete recorded programs.

You can edit existing "timers" to adjust priority, padding (both front and back) and the number of episodes to stack up.

You can review conflicts or just see what's scheduled as well as skipping individual episodes without editing the timer. I use the skip feature a lot during the summer months when the guide data seems to go stupid.

If you have a Slingbox and the web viewing software, you can even watch live or recorded content from your DVR through the same interface.

You must have the HD DVR reachable from the Internet to use these features. The Sling service doesn't work with devices that it can't talk to so the application doesn't cover as much ground as a satellite delivery based setup.

For the supported devices it is arguably better than sitting in front of your TV with the remote.

Does anyone know the best way to get tech support for this. "Contact us" brings you to the DISH website, and I have my doubts that they will be able to help.

Your best shot would usually be here, but you're going to have to be forthcoming with information about your setup. That's where DISH network has an advantage: they know what you've got and whether or not it is Internet connected and functioning properly.

Specifically we need to know if your ViP DVR thinks that it is "Connected Online".

Next we need to know if you've correctly configured the receiver at dish.sling.com.

If both of these conditions are met, it will almost certainly work.
